hero
We never outgrown the need for heroes.

We outgrow the need to see them as perfect, but in everyone’s life there is someone they look up to. In most people’s lives there are several.

In a seminar a few years ago I gave people the task of listing five people they consider heroes. When their list was written, I then asked them to write beside each name the qualities of those people that they admire most.
When the exercise was complete, they knew the traits they most wanted to work on in themselves. I made copies of all of those lists and kept it in each participants file, then I returned the original and asked them to keep the list with them as long as they could in a wallet, backpack or purse and if they couldn’t to post it where they would see it occasionally.
Recently I sent a questionnaire to that group and asked them to list the qualities they most respected about themselves.

It’s not surprising that the traits they listed were the ones they admired most about their heroes. They had developed those skills as a result of the people they looked up to!
Do this exercise. You will find out what is really important to you and you just might discover a new respect for yourself!
